hello guys,

hope you are all keeping well. Just doing my 3 monthly visit to make sure everything is ok. One of these months I will probably make some sort of epic Paul Scholes type of coming out of retirement, only without the medals.

anyway, just wanted to say hi really. Hope you all had a good Xmas and New Year and all that jazz. Something weird happened a month or two back - I was on google and Martin Higham popped up as online. Kinda spooked me out. god rest his soul.

It's moments like this that i miss playing the game. It's January, it's cold and football manager and a cup of tea is so much more of a solitary experience during the winter months! And yes, before anyone says it, I am used to playing by myself...har har! geek Solitaire's the only game in town!

anyway, all the breast!

maybe you guys can keep me posted on teams that are available. cos ultimately, if something crops up then it could be tempting. How does submitting turns work now, is it all online or what? The problem I had before I left was two things really.

1) i was struggling to break even towards the end and had loads of miserable players and making them all happy with the salary demands would have just crippled the team and spiralled the wage bill out of control...so there didn't seem like there was a way out and every turn would have ended up making a loss without playing 8 friendlies.

2) motivation for it and actually finding more time to spend sitting down for an evening to fill everything out and sourcing new talent because...lets face it...you guys here spend loads of time on this aspect. two hours wasn't enough per turn to do even half the job I wanted with my team so it seemed a waste of money.

oh and 3) The non-human team aspect of the game was very poorly administered. Has this been revamped or improved at all? Towards the end it was impossible to sign a player from a non-human team with all sorts of rediculous conditions/demands, and demands that changed by the week it seemed depending on how the non-human team was feeling at the time. It didn't seem consistent to me, which was very frustrating and I know a few people I spoke to had even bigger issues with it than I had.

I'll have to have a think and hear what you guys have to say about how the game has gone in terms of budget control, buying/selling and the turnaround process. cos those things killed my motivation for Roma and in the end I had more issues with the game than enjoyment from it. That's just me giving an honest account of how it was from where I was sitting.

Alright tiger.

tbh, i hardly spend that much time at all sourcing New talent at the minute, obviously if i hear anything in passing then ill have a little sniff but i think this might be represnetitive of most on here.

most of our squads are pretty decent and so theres not the need to go out there and go after players as much.

i honestly think the game would be awsome for someone starting from scratch again as theres plenty of players avaialble as squad sizes and team eiifiency is probably more important than going out and getting a kiddy that might be the next best thing.

iv said to a couple on here that i do miss that chase for a talent or to wheel and deal for a player that will improve my side.

the idea of taking over Derby and trying to build them up from nothing whilst relieving them of the services of darrius vassel is something that really really tempts me.

Thanks for your honest opinions Stu as I cant run the game without people's honest opinions.

I'll leave it up to the guys to fill you in on how they think things are running atm but I will say that since we talked whilst you were at Roma about finances I have taken over at Banstead in the english 8th division and I have readjusted the financial model slightly. Banstead are surviving on crowds of no more than 500 fans and winning. They are now in the 7th division and I will continue to monitor the financial model through each of the divisions. Best of Luck.

Really interesting comments Stu. For me,the game now is better than it ever has been. The days of being able to keep a gigantic squad of high quality players happy is long over... Which has led to the best period of the game for playability in my eyes for a long time. Because players can't be kept happy without giving them the amount of games their attitude/CR requires, it means squads are being thinned out, which means more players are available and reality managed sides and unmanaged sides are getting stronger all the time.

'match day' live on this forum is just pure genius, it adds soo much to the game and personally I can't wait for 10am on Tuesdays... I actually schedule my diary around it nowadays

Turns arrive by email, the day after the games are played, which gives us much much longer to digest our turns and make decisions than we used to get...

I hear what Will is saying, but you'd be competing against yourself with a lower league club...

If I were you, I'd take Spurs out of reality management... Modric and Defoe the main assets and currently top of the championship...

If you want a European challenge... Come to Spain...it's getting very interesting, Atletico Madrid?

Echo this on the game being better now than at any time since I joined. Leagues are very competitive and there is a spread of players which makes it interesting. In Italy Juventus, Milan, Ancona, Roma and Napoli all have good squads ( Roma still have almost all the players you had - I'm playing them this week so have their squad). Youth players also get more spread out and not just centralised by 1 or 2 clubs.

Paul has made the game really interactive - match days are excellent and the turns sent out by e-mail have changed time frames.

Balancing the books is now achievable but it is also a skill that takes time and patience. This and harmony in the squad are the biggest challenges and make the game. Better than ever. Come back to Italy and park the bus against me like normal!!!!

If I complete my unfinished business in Argentina this season I'd like to move to England next season so it might get even more interesting there. Or even earlier if the right lub came up.

I'd either like a Spurs (I'm leaving a lot behind at Boca so what something to work with) or a true fallen giant ..... Forest perhaps?

If u took on forest rob id be sorely tempted to have a crack at derby.

Would be great, I could sit there in mid table mediocrity, with a load of youngsters not even looking to trouble the top six and with no money to spend and u could spend lots of money on short term quick fix loan signings and not sign anybody permanently cos of them not having 20/20 vision lol

The only problem Rob is that having an English feeder is really difficult, and you miss out on a lot of opportunities having the clubs that way around.
Think carefully before doing it.
