Newcastle always have and always will think they are a bigger club than they are. They need to realise that they are a mid table Premiership side at best not the CL side they were 10ish years ago. They should attempt to consolidate have a couple of seasons in the Prem then push for top 6.

Now they will spend big on overvalued players and finish near bottom IMO, Pardew fired and Sven to take over as Ashley sells the club at the end of the year...possibly.

Adding to the above - this is Pardew describing Newcastle today: "it's one of the top five clubs in England."

Really? In front of who?

i think he means in terms of fan base.

in that respect they truly are massive and if they were given any sort of sustained level of success then their atttendances would rival any in the country.

The problem is cos of their level of support comes an even bigger level of expectancy and maybe a dillusiuonal attitude as to where they should be.

Currently they need to realise they need to do what every club has to do having attained promotion and just survive - which they should do, there are worse teams than them in the division.

then they can start to push on,

As for Pardew, as a neutral im a little disappointed, Pardew is a very uninspiring appointement, not too sure what, if anyithing he has achieved that has been successful.

i think hes acheived the odd promotion, hes got teams playing decent football and he may have saved a club from the drop but nothing that jumps out and says hes significantly better to take the club forward than Houghton was.

Would had loved to have seen Oneill back in the game, He could have been the one to harness that unrivaled passion they have up their for the game,

it could have been something really special...real shame.

they'll even be begging for keegan to come back in 12 months time when they are 4th from bottom of the championship. poor decision, would have been better off giving it to gus poyet in my opinion, surprised he was never mentioned for the job.

TBH 6 months would have been too long in my opinion.

But 5 and a half years..... affraid

What possible reason would you give such a big contract to a manager who has been sacked from every management job he has had, apart from Reading where he spat his dummy out and forced their hand into letting him go.

Palace - sacked
Charlton - sacked
Southampton - sacked

Where is the success, the experience?

Just don't get it...... Question

5 and a half years for Pardew on the 2nd smallest wage in the Premiership is not such a big outlay if Pardew manages to keep them up by the skin of their teeth.

The Qatari royal family are now looking for an attractive Premiership investment following their success of landing a world cup.

At the end of the season if Newcastle remain in the premiership, and with the clubs potential for both it's fanbase and the international media coverage of the premiership allied with the oportunity of investment to raise the profile of Qatar they would be right for cherry picking.

If this happens Ashley will sell up and the remainder of Pardew's contract will be worth relative peanuts in oder to get rid of him and bring in a big name.

Maybe I am a cynic.

Completely agree, but what I don't get is what can Pardew do that Hughton wasn't?

Now there lies the rub............I can not understand it either. Unless Hughton was becoming a tad too popular with the fans, and if everything goes tits up and they get relegated with no future investment potential, Ashley can try to save face by trying to shift the blame on to an unwanted, unpopular and uninspiring manager that will only cost a couple of million to get rid of! Anyway the whole situation is unwarrented as Hughton was doing a very good job and was only on a temporary contract.
