Iker Casillas pulled off a wonder save on 6 minutes to deny David Villa

then Victor Valdes did the same thing at the other end to deny Fabregas after some great combination play with Messi.

Casillas was then in action again saving well from Navas on 15 minutes.

it then became a cat and mouse game with the defences on top with Pique playing especially well before Valdes was again called into the action on 28 minutes to deny the mercurial Messi.

on 39 minutes Alba crashed a header into the side netting.

and more great work by Pique ended the first half all square.

So all still to play for here.

Betis need to pull finger out. We've left it very late recently, if we're struggling to put Espanol away, the signs are ominous for next week.

Hoping Ribery's and Cuenca's return from injury next week helps things.
