| Varela? The one that last week said his manager says he's unavailable for transfer after I trialled him last week?... and now Phil gets him on trial? |

| Getting my finances in order is really boring. I am very close to going into market stall mode. "Hernanes, hernanes for sale. Anyone for a nice bunch of Hernanes?" |

| There has always been a difference between newing and trialling players.
Foreign sides have traditionally been able to trial any brazilian player. ( now they can trial anybody from a non-protected league - usually the lower division leagues ). |

Didn't notice a PERMBID for him last turn on the list? Can they go through straight away now? |

Paul, is it possible to get a list of the protected leagues as a special action maybe, similar to UT (unmanaged teams). Just for reference? |

Can they go through straight away now? the openbid was added week 17 last week and processed this week, but it would have been looked at last week as well.

| Good point Tom. I have absolutely no idea what leagues are classed as NONL or protected etc.
Paul, sorry for the random question, but did Betis sign anyone? |

| you can't Trial or New players from these "protected" divisions.
eng1 eng2 spa1 ger1 fra1 por1 ita1 hol1 rus1
that's so the teams in these divisions stay competitive cos you have to offer good swapdeals via the permanent bidding openbid system to get these players.
however you can still use openbid to try and sign players from clubs in these divisions.
I don't think it's worth a special action code.

| Ok mate, appreciate the info. So that's all the protected leagues?
For any other leagues, NEWing those players won't work, but TRIALing them would?
Sorry, just trying to get my head around it!! |

Sorry, just trying to get my head around it!! the difference between new and trial does seem a bit pedantic now i'm thinking about it at this stage of the game, traditionally I can see a use for the difference but i'm not sure I can now. the short answer is yes. oh yeah now I remember why we had and still have new and trial. okay so yes defo that is how it is. You can't NEW somebody from the spanish 2nd division but you can trial him ( providing he's at an unmanaged club of course ). |

| basically the difference between new and trial is this.
NEW = new player on the database you have to scout him and send me his info. TRIAL = existing player on the database, probably somebody else has NEWed at sometime, probably me.
NEWs are discounted down to tribval whereas TRIALs are not discounted ( price wise ). so you generally ( but not always ) pay more for a trialist.
although occasionally a NEW can be a player in the non-league that nobody else wants so that too is discounted down to tribval. |

| I like the use of the TRIAL system for England to be honest Paul, I can very much see the benefit. Although to be honest as virtually everyone in England has a foreign feeder club, I'm not sure that it actually ever gets used... apart from this turn obviously! lol |

this mid season break we are currently "enjoying" is what TRIALs were originally designed for, I use to get abot 50 Sun backpages in the post each week with people trying to Trial everybody and anybody mentioned in connection with a british club, it was good fun. |
