there are 3 name fields

searchname is 15 bytes and usually surname or nickname
shortname is 20 bytes and usually the name used for match reports and news
fullname is 30 bytes and needs to be unique.

I forgot to shorten Cameron Borthwick-Jackson whilst entering the shortname and the system crashed, so he is now known as Cameron Borthwick hah.
